An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the authorities once more.

She stated the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
