2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Mixed Reception

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a more distinct brand.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving Ben soon. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the progress of the game in the time to follow.
